Farm Animal: Black Sheep

$5.99

Unlike many other animals, white coloration in sheep is a dominant gene, rather than a recessive gene or mutation like albinism and leucism. Therefore, black sheep are fairly rare, occurring in about 25% of cases when two white sheep that carry the recessive black gene produce offspring. This black sheep figure is 3 ¼ inches long and 3 inches high, or about the size of a standard deck of playing cards stood on its side.

Product Description

Pretend play allows children to make sense of the world around them. And to create their own unique worlds. They can imitate what they’ve seen and experienced. Or create an altogether different reality. Each child is free to decide how to play. Farm Animal Play Figures, such as this black sheep toy, make ideal play props for pretend play.

Young children often sort the animals, deciding which ones belong together and which ones don’t. Some will separate farm animals from wild ones, sea creatures from birds, or adults from juveniles. Preschoolers often group adults and juveniles together to create families. This often leads to creative play and storytelling. The stories sometimes reflect what’s on the mind of the child and therefore help him work through fears  and worries easier. When engaging in pretend play with others, children learn to articulate their ideas, listen to their playmates, cooperate, negotiate, and compromise, all valuable social skills.
